Cape Gooseberry and Thai Lime Basil Margarita!

This may be the most unusual cocktail you've ever made because...gooseberries? Who does that? We do, gardeners. We do!

Gooseberries are super sweet and have a flavor halfway between pineapple and lime. The Thai Lime Basil, which is easy to grow and a fantastic addition to so many recipes, really pushes this cocktail recipe from ho-hum to hey, what is this? Give it a try.

Cape Gooseberry and Thai Lime Basil Margarita

Sweet and citrus-y cocktail fun!

  • 6 oz Tequila

  • 4 oz St. Germaine

  • 8 tbsp fresh squeezed lime juice

  • 30 Cape Gooseberries (plus 8 more for garnish)

  • 20 sprigs Thai lime basil (plus 4 with stem for garnish)

  1. Cut the gooseberries in half and toss in a medium mixing bowl

  2. Chop 20 sprigs of basil and add to mixing bowl

  3. Muddle berries and basil

  4. Add 6 oz of tequila (flavor is better developed if you let this sit for an hour but not necessary!)

  5. Add St Germain and lime juice

  6. Mix well and divide into 4 glasses filled with ice

  7. Using a toothpick, poke a hole in the berries and then push the stem of a sprig of basil through two of the berries for a beautiful garnish. Enjoy!
